Open Call – International residency puppetry arts
6–8 week residency for 1–3 Norwegian puppetry artists at Le fabrique de Theâtre Insolite
Residency start date: October 2025
The objective of this residency is to enable artists from Norway to spend 6–8 weeks at Le Fabrique de Theâtre Insolite hosted by Les sages fous.
Le fabrique de theâtre Insolite is an unusual sanctuary dedicated to the creation of puppetry and object theatre. In the conversion of an 18th century church and convent into the creation hub and performance space of the theatre company Les Sages Fous, it has just recently opened its doors in winter 2023–24.
This inspiring venue is specializing in the creation of new theatrical works in contemporary puppetry: a visual and hybrid art form at the crossroads of many worlds.
Les Sages Fous propose a theatre of paradoxes: grotesque and poetic, ritual and mundane, domestic and marvelous. Founded in 1999, the company has toured in 28 countries and four continents in over 250 international theatre festivals.
La Fabrique de Théâtre Insolite will be the heart of les Sages Fous infamous biannual festival dedicated to work in progress founded in 2002: ”Microfestival de marionnettes inachevées” as well as the ”Saison de théâtre insolite’‘ which presents, since 2009, an intriguing array of unusual theatre pieces destined for unconventional spaces.
Overlooking the St Lawrence River, La Fabrique de Théâtre Insolite is in the heart of the Historic district in downtown Trois-Rivières within easy walking distance from all services. Trois-Rivières is strategically situated one hour from Quebec City and two hours from Montreal by bus. www.sagesfous.com
In exchange, two artists from Quebec will be hosted at Fossekleiva kultursenter in a similar way, and also be special guests at Figur i Fossekleiva (FiF) as part of their stay. The project is realised in collaboration with The Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec and Les sages fous.
This international residency is for professional puppetry artists only. Throughout the residency accommodation and workspace will be provided for free to the artists selected.
The grant sum is NOK 60.000.
