Les Anges au Plafond: WHITE DOG

WHITE DOG takes place in the USA of the 1960s, torn by racial conflict.
Martin Luther King has just been assassinated. All over the country, rioting has broken out. Blacks struggle relentlessly to win their civil rights.
Surrounded by this urban violence, Romain Gary and his wife, actress Jean Seberg, adopt a stray german shepherd, and name him Batka. Although their new pet seems sweet and affectionate, he is no ordinary canine. Now and then, he bristles with savagery, as if overcome by his wolfish nature. And so – without warning, the familiar disintegrates, giving way to the ferocious.
                    
“What is wrong with this dog?” 

The humans delve into understanding the animal’s behavior, trying to save its life.

After staging R.A.G.E., Les Anges au Plafond continue to illuminate the humanism of Romain Gary. Here, they tackle the question of the conditioning of the human mind.

What hope is there for a dream of brotherhood and reconciliation, when human stupidity rhymes with animal ferocity? Is manipulation synonymous with training?

Martin Luther King har nettopp blitt myrdet. Over hele landet har det brutt ut opptøyer. Svarte kjemper nådeløst for å vinne sine borgerrettigheter.
Omgitt av denne urbane volden adopterer Romain Gary og hans kone, skuespillerinnen Jean Seberg, en bortkommen schæferhund og kaller ham Batka. Selv om deres nye kjæledyr virker søtt og hengivent, er han ingen vanlig hund. Nå og da er han full av villskap, som om han er overveldet av sin ulveaktige natur. Og så – helt uten forvarsel går det kjente gradvis i oppløsning og viker for det grusomme.

Menneskene fordyper seg i å forstå dyrets oppførsel og prøver å redde livet dets.

Etter å ha skapt forestillingen R.A.G.E., fortsetter Les Anges au Plafond å belyse Romain Garys humanisme. Her tar de for seg spørsmålet om betingingen av det menneskelige sinn.

Finnes det håp for drømmen om brorskap og forsoning, når menneskelig dumhet rimer på dyrisk voldsomhet? Er manipulasjon synonymt med trening?
